Born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan, Burhan Khan felt an essential need to rebel against popular culture. This defiant spirit brought him to the UK, where he earned a degree from the University for the Creative Arts.
Khan soon entered the world of fashion, displaying an aesthetic sensibility formed around the polarities of nature and the industrial world. In 2011 he closed his label in order to travel the world and develop as an artist.
Khan’s current body of work brings fashion illustration off the page with larger-than-life metal figures “shaded” with over 9,000 meters of thread. He refers to this thread as a “network of energy” giving life to creatures who live in a seventh dimension where, he says, “only tones of sound and sacred geometry exists.” Khan imbues his pieces with a nomadic and tribal sensibility, mirroring his own rejection of a permanent home.
Burhan Khan is a visiting Professor at the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design in Lahore, Pakistan.
